Message Story time!
Today, I was helping out my buddy at his job moving gravel, filling in a garage with my other friend. We had to move a shitload of it about 10 feet over, with shovels. Sucked ass. So of course my mind gets going, how can I do this easier? There's got to be a better way than 3 guys with shovels. Well, my friend had a pickup, (4 cyl S-10), so I thought, hey, lets load the gravel in the pickup, and back the pickup where we need to leave the gravel, and just push it out, and that will make things alot easier.
So we load up his pickup bed with gravel, and back it into the garage we are filling. Well, the rwd S-10 got stuck. Dug the wheels in so much, the truck was sitting on its chassis. At idle, the left wheel would just spin (read: not even touching the ground). Shit!
So now we gotta get it out. He gets his jack, I get mine out of the Z parked on the street, and go to it. We jack up the back and stick gravel underneath the wheels, lower it back down, and decide we will just push it out with the car in nuetral so we dont dig the tires in again. Well, the car got stuck on a little ledge, so on 3, we gave it our all, and out goes the truck.
Whew, relief. We were all really happy, as we had been working on it for about an hour, and worried that we were never gonna get it out. Sighh....
OH SHIT!!!!!! The truck is now rolling down the hill in front of the house with no one in it, DIRECTLY towards my Z parked on the street! I couldn't believe it. My friend grabs the back of the truck and tries to stop it, but just gets pulled along with it. I STUPIDLY run in front of the rolling car (probably about 10mph now) and try to stop it (why? I dont know. It seemed like a good idea at the time.) Obviously it doesn't work and the truck keeps rolling. Meanwhile, my friend jumps into the S-10, trying to hit the brakes, but since the engine wasnt on, he has no brakes. (not sure why, its kinda weird). It was just making funny noises as he hit the brake, brakes weren't doing anything. So let's review: We have a 2 ton truck careening towards my Z, with no brakes, with no way to stop it, me in front, with my Z about 5 feet away, coming up fast. Shit.
As this was happening, I already started thinking about how insurance was gonna cover this, how bad the damage was gonna be, etc.
At the absolute last possible moment, my friend cranks the S-10 wheel all the over to the right, I put one hand on the Z and one on the S-10, jumped up, lifted up my legs, and the S-10 hood slid RIGHT under my legs, missing my Z by MAYBE 2 inches, and actually brushing against the bottom of my legs. Holy SHIT!!! Too close! In an instant, my legs could have been crushed. I guess all those stunts I do really helped out, eh? :)
Afterwards, we all just stood around laughing because we were so relieved. I can't believe I did what I did, it was really stupid and dangerous, and a person's safety should NEVER come before a car. But the Z isn't just a car, is it? =)
